BIRATNAGAR: The first Rum Pum Birat Gold Cup quarter-final match between Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club and Hong Kong Nepalese Football Team has been abandoned due to poor visibility. Both the teams were failed to break the 2-2 deadlock in the 20 minutes of added one time. Anil Gurung and Mbile Stephen scored for MMC, while Bishal Rai ?A? and Naren Limbu netted for the Hong Kong team. The organisers later decided to replay the match in full on Tuesday morning. In another quarter-final match, RCT will take on Mega Three Star Club.

NSC seeks more time

KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council has requested the Public Account Commission (PAC) to give 15 more days to submit the report on the sixth National Games. The PAC had directed the NSC to submit the financial report within April 7 following the petition of the Pressure Group formed by various political parties. ?We have been working day and night to prepare the report but we will not be able to submit it to the PAC within the given time frame as it cannot be prepared overnight,? said NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama. ?We have written the PAC to consider it,? he added. Five groups ? one each for all the five development regions ? have been checking the accounts at the NSC hostel rooms. ?It will take at least one month to complete all the works,? said one of the members of the team.

Open Rating Chess

KATHMANDU: Bishalnagar Library is organising the Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament to celebrate its golden jubilee from April 28 to May 2 in Kathmandu. A total of 125 players from Nepal, India and Bangladesh will take part in the tournament that offers a total cash purse of Rs 75,000, informed the organisers in a release. The top three players will receive Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively, while others in the top 23 will also get their share of cash prizes. International Arbiter Gyanendra Khaiju will conduct the tournament to be played under the Swiss League format over nine rounds. The organisers have managed free accommodation for the players from outside the valley.

Trinity beat BYA

LALITPUR: Trinity Club of Syangja defeated Birgunj Youth Academy (BYA) 2-1 while Kasturi Youth Club of Siraha and Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) played a 2-2 draw in the Red Bull ?B? Division National League here on Monday. Prem Ale scored the decider for Trinity in the 89th minute after Krishna Shakya?s 52nd minute goal had cancelled out Janga Bahadur Rai?s 43rd minute strike. In another match, Binod Kumar Chaudhary gave Kasturi the 10th minute lead but Ranjit Tamang scored in the 33rd minute to level the scores for MYA. MYA went ahead when Nischal Basnet scored in the 62nd minute only for Shyam Kumar Chaudhary to equalise from virtually the last kick of the match in the 89th minute.

Lumbini, Banke win

LALITPUR: Lumbini and Banke opened the fourth National Cricket for Blind with wins here at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Monday. Lumbini eased to a 10-wicket win over Kaski while Banke defeated Chitwan by five wickets. Kaski scored 197-7 in 20 before Lumbini overcame the total without losing a single wicket. Player-of-the-match Khim Nanda Gaire scored unbeaten 88 and his opening partner Sunil Chhetri remained 58 not out in Lumbini?s successful run chase. In the other match, Chitwan score 192-7 and Banke surpassed the total for the loss of five wickets. Nari Lal Giri struck 52 runs for Banke. Himalayan.
