LaGuardia Community College Holds 10th Annual Queens Small ...

Long Island City, NY?The LaGuardia Community College and the Office of U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on June 8 are co-sponsoring the College?s 10th Annual Queens Small Business and Procurement Expo, which will provide over 200 small business owners with the opportunity to learn how to compete for government contracts.

Along with representatives from U.S. Senator Gillibrand?s office and LaGuardia, New York City Council Members Jimmy Van Bramer and Diana Reyna, who is Chair of the Small Business Committee, will also be in attendance.

LaGuardia Community College operates the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), which since 1999, The LaGuardia PTAC has assisted more than 3,511 businesses located in Queens and the surrounding region in marketing their goods and services to the federal, state, and local governments. The center offers procurement technical assistance and training workshops to meet the needs of any size business, including Minority Owned Small Business, Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business/Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB/VOSB) and Women Owned Small Businesses.

The expo is being co-sponsored and hosted by Con Edison and will be held at the Con Edison Learning Center at 43-82 Vernon Boulevard, Long Island City from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Citibank is?also co-sponsoring the event.

?This event is designed to provide small businesses with the tools and information they need to better compete for government contracts and business opportunities,? said Senator Gillibrand. ??I am committed to making sure that New York businesses are best positioned for these contracts, creating more local jobs. That?s why I am proud to co?sponsor this important event.?

At the forum, Queens and metropolitan area small business owners will meet and speak with a large number of procurement representatives about sub-contracting opportunities and also ?network with other small businesses. Over 50 government agencies and private-sector companies will be participating in the event. These include NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Department of Education, New York City Housing Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, Federal Aviation Administration, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Department of Homeland Security/FEMA, Tishman Construction, Skanska and many others.

Workshops will also be offered throughout the day.

Mellow, President of LaGuardia Community College.? ?By teaching them to navigate through complex procurement rules and negotiate contracts, businesses will secure new contracts, bring in new revenues and create jobs.??
