Alinah Ahmad to be new mayor of Petaling Jaya from Jan 1; first female mayor

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government on Wednesday announced the appointment of Selangor Housing Board chief executive officer Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad as the mayor of Petaling Jaya effective Jan 1 next year.

She will be the country's first female mayor.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said Alinah replaced Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman who was appointed deputy state secretary (development).

Alinah's vast experience in administration at the state and federal level can help her be an effective mayor, Abdul Khalid told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here on Wednesday.

On Oct 1, the Petaling Jaya mayor then, Datuk Mohamadd Roslan Sakiman, was given a 24-hour notice of his transfer as deputy state secretary (development) and this had caused an uproar within the Petaling Jaya City Council and a protest from the state government.

In his reply, the Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr. Ali Hamsa, who described the transfer as a routine exercise due to a vacancy and a promotion, had agreed to put on hold the transfer for a month to enable Mohamad Roslan to complete his duties. - Bernama
